Your first Zante holiday

First time in Zante: your holiday planning guide

From the group chat to your first night in Laganas. Get your stay, spending money and plans sorted before you fly.

Your first Zante holiday is easier to plan when you sort three things early: where you are staying, what you can spend and which events you actually want to attend. Get those right and you can leave room for the spontaneous bits.

If the group chat is full of different ideas, start with the kind of week everyone wants. Big nights in Laganas, beach days, exploring the island or a mix of all three? Agree the basics before anyone pays a deposit.

This guide brings the planning together. Use the detailed area, budget and event guides when you are ready to make each decision.

Choose your base before your hotel

For a holiday built around the Strip, start your search in Laganas. Staying close to the places you want to visit makes it easier to meet up and head out without organising a journey from another resort every evening.

Being central also means weighing up noise. Check the exact property address, recent room reviews and the route to nightlife. A quieter street can be a good compromise, but “in Laganas” does not tell you how convenient the location will be.

If your group prefers a calmer base and occasional big nights, compare other areas before committing. Add return transport to your budget and check the property's minimum check-in age and group rules.

Your before-you-fly checklist

Save the important details somewhere you can reach without mobile data. Share the accommodation address and arrival arrangements with everyone travelling.

  • Travel documents: check the current entry rules for your passport and nationality, including validity and border procedures. For British passport holders, use the GOV.UK Greece entry requirements and your travel provider's guidance.
  • Insurance: arrange cover for your trip and check the policy against any activities you plan to do.
  • Bookings: save your flights, accommodation confirmation, event references and organiser contact details.
  • Arrival: confirm your transfer or onward journey, check-in time and what to do if your flight is delayed.
  • Phone: check roaming charges, download useful maps and pack a charger and power bank.
  • Money: confirm card charges abroad and separate everyday spending from unpaid booking balances.
  • Accommodation extras: ask about deposits, local charges and anything optional that is not included.

Do this before the final packing rush. Entry requirements and travel arrangements can change, so check again close to departure.

Make your first day easy

Start with getting to your accommodation, checking in and finding your bearings. Save the exact location on your phone before you head out, and make sure everyone knows how to contact the property.

Check the room together and raise any existing damage with the accommodation promptly. Ask about keys, access late at night and check-out arrangements so there are no surprises later.

Leave time for food, water and a look around. A walk in daylight helps you understand where you are staying in relation to the places you want to visit.

If you have an event booked on arrival day, check its start time, meeting point and ticket arrangements with the organiser beforehand. Leave a realistic margin for immigration, luggage, your transfer and any delay.

You do not need to fill every hour on day one. A simple first evening can be a better start than trying to squeeze in everything after a long journey.

Build a week you will actually enjoy

Pick a few things you really want to do, then leave space around them. A boat party, a headline event and a beach day all need a place in your plans, but so do meals, travel and time to recharge.

Check the dates and venues for your own stay. Do not assume a friend's schedule from last summer will be the same, or that an artist is confirmed because they played previously.

When comparing packages, look at the full price, included events, entry conditions and payment dates. Keep a record of deposits and balances, and check whether transport, food, drinks or upgrades cost extra.

Book through the actual booking site, keep the confirmation and take time to read what you are buying. You do not have to make a decision because someone is putting pressure on you.

For the daytime, use our things-to-do guide to pick a few ideas that fit your group and budget.

Get your nights out sorted

Agree a meeting point and a way home before you head out. Keep in touch with your group, watch drinks and look out for each other. If plans change, make sure nobody is left trying to get back alone.

Check current GOV.UK safety and security advice for Greece, including identification and age rules. The current advice says alcohol cannot be sold to under-18s and bars and nightclubs cannot admit under-18s. Do not plan around claims that age checks will be skipped.

Check the organiser's entry conditions before paying for any event. If you are unsure whether your group is eligible, ask directly rather than relying on a social media comment.

Leave valuables you do not need securely stored and keep your phone charged. Follow venue instructions and local guidance, including any beach access restrictions.

First time in Zante: quick questions

Is Zante the same as Zakynthos?

Yes. You will see both names used for the island, including in flight and accommodation information. Check the actual resort and address when booking your stay.

Where should I stay for my first party holiday?

Start with Laganas if nightlife is the priority. Compare the property's exact location, noise, rules and total cost before choosing. Our where-to-stay guide covers the alternatives.

How much spending money should I bring?

Build a daily allowance around food, nights out and transport, then add a buffer and any unpaid bookings. Use our spending-money examples as a starting point, adjusting for your own plans.

Should I book every night before I arrive?

Choose the events that matter most and check availability for your dates. Leave free time for local bars, daytime plans and whatever your group feels like doing. Compare the actual inclusions before buying a package.

What if our flight arrives late?

Tell your accommodation, check its late check-in procedure and confirm transport. If you have an event that evening, contact the organiser before travelling to discuss timing and ticket arrangements.
